With a sense of bold irreverence and a keen spirit of contemporary culture-mining, the South African-born street artist known as Mantis has graced the forgotten walls of international locations including Los Angeles, Miami, Sydney, Bangkok and Berlin with an acerbic wit in a similar vein to that of British street artist giant Banksy. Using the same stenciled-aerosol technique, Mantis creates a biting commentary of consumer culture with a pointed tip at authoritative bodies and their inherent failings and hypocrisies. Ultimately, however, the goal is positive change rather than incessant negative connotation.

Mantis was born in South Africa and has been steadily contributing to the global street art landscape for over a decade. His first solo exhibition re-invented the derelict landmark the Lord Napier pub in East London, entitled ‘Altered State’ featuring works which, to this day, has not offered any indication as to whether the work is available for public sale. Mantis contributed cover art for British Mod rock singer Paul Weller and continues to work in the global urban art arena, based out of London and represented with Robert Fontaine Gallery.
