NUAX

The work of the mexican artist based in copenhagen: paintings, installation art and metal work.

His background as an artist with a well developed career has shaped Nuax’ ability to approach the different materials he has encountered from various angles. Since the early 90’s he has developed a fascination for experimenting with diverse materials which has been an ongoing passion ever since.

Visual kidnapping

Nuax debuts with a series of powerful paintings, each of which is based on a well-known brand – brands that we all know, but which have undergone a special transformation. Mascots, logos and catch phrases are being held hostage in a play with the viewer’s recognition ability:

“Visual kidnapping is like entering an interactive game: If the brand on the billboard kidnaps the attention of the public with the purpose of consumer demand, NUAX reverse’s the situation and he kidnap’s the model on the poster and demands a ransom of 100,000 DKK from the brand. This sum represents the symbolic price of an advertising campaign for the brand.”

Nuax exhibits a refreshing consistent style, where the use of precious materials such as oil and gold leaf creates a special contrast to the raw motives.
